Cancellations and Refunds

Subscriptions are not currently available for purchase. This page describes the terms that will apply when they are, so that you can read them before rather than after.
How subscriptions work
You start monthly. You can move to annual whenever you like.
Annual is not available as a first purchase. We would rather you used the product for a month and then decided, than paid for a year and hoped. Before you pay anything at all, the top five rankings publish free and without an account, so you can see the shape of the work first.
Annual subscribers lock the price in force on the day the annual subscription starts, and keep it for as long as that subscription remains continuously active. Monthly subscriptions never carry a locked rate.
How to cancel
One click, inside your account, at any time.
- No phone call. We will never require you to speak to anyone to leave.
- No email request. You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to wait for us to reply.
- No retention flow. We will not put offers, surveys or "are you sure" screens in front of the cancel button.
- Cancelling is exactly as easy as subscribing, in the same place, in the same number of steps.
We think a service that is hard to leave is telling you something about itself. We would rather you stayed because the work is good.
What happens when you cancel
Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancelling does not cut you off that day.
- Monthly: access continues to the end of the current month. No further charge is made.
- Annual: access continues to the end of the current year. No further charge is made.
You will receive an email confirming the cancellation, stating the date your access ends. If that email does not arrive, the cancellation did not happen — contact us.
⚠ Cancelling ends your locked price
Read this before you cancel an annual subscription.
The locked rate is a property of the subscription, not of you. If you cancel and later return, you subscribe at the price then in force, which may be higher. The lock does not survive a gap, and we cannot reinstate it.
Refunds
Annual subscriptions are not refundable
We do not refund annual subscriptions. You may cancel at any time and access continues to the end of the year you have paid for, but the payment is not returned.
We can say that because you do not have to guess. The top five publish free. You subscribe monthly first, for as long as you like. Nobody is asked to commit to a year before using the product, and the annual price exists for people who already know what they are buying.
Monthly subscriptions
Monthly payments are not refunded for the current period. Cancel at any time and access runs to the end of the month you have paid for. No further charge is made.

Nothing above limits any right the law gives you, and where the law gives you more than our policy does, the law wins.
Depending on where you live, you may have a statutory right to cancel a purchase and receive a refund within a set period, regardless of what this page says:

These periods run from the transaction. For subscriptions they apply to the first payment, and in some jurisdictions to renewals as well.
Our payment processor may also issue a refund at its own discretion within 14 days of a transaction, independently of this policy.
If you believe you have such a right, exercise it. We will not argue with you about it and we will not ask you to waive it.
Renewals
We email you before every renewal, stating the date and the amount, in time for you to cancel if you would rather not continue.
If a renewal charge takes you by surprise — because our reminder did not reach you, or because something on our side went wrong — tell us and we will refund it. We would rather lose the payment than keep money somebody did not mean to spend.
Who takes your payment
Payments are processed by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record for this service. Paddle handles the transaction, the payment method and applicable sales tax, and is the name that appears on your statement.
We never see or store your card details.
Refunds, where they are due, are issued through the same payment method by the same processor. Depending on your bank, a refund typically appears within several business days of being issued.
Taxes
Prices are shown exclusive of any applicable sales tax, VAT or GST, which is calculated at checkout based on your location and collected by the merchant of record.
Founding members
Fifty founding subscriptions exist, ever — not fifty at a time.
If a founding member cancels, that seat is not reopened and is not resold. The number only goes down. We would rather the offer mean something than keep it permanently available.
A founding member who cancels and returns subscribes at the price then in force, like anyone else.
If something goes wrong
If you were charged in error, charged twice, or charged after cancelling, tell us and we will fix it. We will not make you prove it first.
Please write to us before disputing a charge with your bank. A chargeback takes weeks, costs us a fee, and usually ends your account automatically — where an email usually ends with your money back the same day. We are not trying to talk you out of your rights; we are telling you the faster route.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for future purchases. We will not change them retroactively for a subscription already in force — the terms you agreed to when you subscribed are the terms that apply to that subscription for as long as it remains active.
Material changes will be emailed to subscribers before they take effect.
